For Team Wild TV’s Ian Harford, choosing the right equipment is an essential part of his preparation for the roebuck hunting season throughout the UK.
Spring has sprung throughout the United Kingdom and for many outdoorsmen and women across the country. In England, the roebuck season opens on the 1st of April. In Scotland, the season opens on the same date but closes a few days earlier on 20th October.
Choosing the right equipment is an essential part of Ian’s preparation for the roebuck hunting season. Every part of his gear has been selected specifically for the quarry and hunting environment. He has spent countless hours on the range honing his marksmanship and perfecting his technique. However, all of the equipment, training and preparation in the world will amount to nothing he does not protect himself from the elements.
Once you have your equipment ready, you need to learn each piece inside and out. The last thing you do is miss a perfect opportunity because something unexpected happens with your set-up.
“My advice would be to keep practicing. It’s all about familiarity, spend a lot of time working with your equipment, go to your local shooting range, and get use to deploying your rifle from your backpack. The more familiar you are and the more second nature using your equipment becomes, the more likely you are to take advantage if a shot presents itself.” – Ian Harford.
We love to hear what you will be using this season. Leave your roebuck hunting essential equipment list in the comment section below.
Next time on the UK Deer Series, we’re Roebuck Stalking in Hampshire.
